Pantomime Time

Every year we have a visit to the panto in Ayr Gaiety Theatre. It is a much looked forward to event. Busses are hired and lunches are packed for a little jolly up the road. Leaving the centre around 11am we took a scenic run up to Girvan, where we stopped for our packed lunch. The sun was shining and it was lovely to sit and watch the folks walking on the prom and the boats leaving the harbour. It would have been so nice to stop longer but Cinderella was calling. An uneventful but enjoyable journey to Ayr and into the theatre, we found our seats and got ready to be entertained. There were a few intimations and first called was ourselves! Lovely surprise and we all cheered (quite loudly!) The cast were fantastic! Buttons started off  batting sweeties out to the audience & then soaking everyone with water pistols that got bigger with every squirt! And…. he was besotted with Cinders, poor fellow, as all she wanted was a prince. The Ugly Sisters were hilarious. And the Fairy Godmother…. she “wis pure dead brilliant. So she wis!”
Baron Hardup was, well, hard up and the Prince was just as you’d expect, tall, dark, handsome, rich! Haha. The interval came round so quickly and it was ice cream time. Some one did ask if that was it finished but was told, “No’ yet, Cinderella has still to get married.” So if you hadn’t known the story…. that was it spoiled. Haha.
Our members thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the show with the horse and carriage looking rightly Royal. Then after the ball The Baron, Buttons and the Ugly Sisters getting lost in the forest and kidnapped by ghosts, which was so funny. All in all a great show. By the time we got out of the theatre it was time to go for dinner. We were booked into Malin Court, Maidens. So we came the back road via the electric brae, such a shame it was getting too dark to see the views over the water to Arran and Ailsa Craig.
What a lovely place Malin Court is and serving such delicious food. We would all recommend it if you’re going to be up that way. Again we were, too soon, back on the road home. Arriving back in Stranraer around 8.30ish.
We would like to say thank you to Scott and Gilbert who drove us up and delivered us home safely and to the staff of Malin Court who cooked and served our delicious dinner.
Do it again this year?
Oh yes we will!
