Gaiety Whirl

The Gaiety Theatre in Ayr was the place to be on Thursday 4th July when 32 members with 3 staff and a driver from WCT left the Day Centre at 12pm to head up to the All New Gaiety Whirl. There was a three quarter hour stop at Girvan to have our packed lunch and some fresh air then on the road again.

The show was absolutely fabulous, total variety, from singing, Michael Courtney has such a wonderful voice and range of abilities, he started as Tom Jones and finished with the blues brothers, accompanied by Chris Taylor, with some Michael Crawford thrown in, both as the hapless Frank Spencer and as the Phantom of the Opera. Totally superb!  Ashley Oliver sang songs from the shows and everyone agreed her voice gave you goosebumps! She was amazing! Abbie Watson also sang and danced again a lovely voice and so energetic. There was comedy throughout the show this seems to be Chris’s forte. He only had to come on to the stage and the laughter started. Magic was supplied by Safire. Stuart and Jayne were very good the illusions were so fast and furious it was impossible to see how they were done! Amazing. The highlight for many of the members was the Puppets! They were fantastic! The hall was darkened the black curtain lowered and the brightest of puppets appeared on the stage. It was pure magic. They sang and danced it was totally hilarious. It brought tears to the eyes we laughed so much.  The show was on for three hours and it passed like a blink of the eye. We are all now looking forward to Aladdin at Christmas time.

We did not come straight home; the Minnishant Inn was the next stop of the day. Orders for dinner had been placed earlier to make everything quick and easy for the staff. Dinner was excellent and the staff were very friendly and efficient. It was a lovely day  and a lovely day out.

Thank you to Lyn and Chris who were excellent drivers and Marion and Margo who kept order on the busses.
