Lochside Thursday Club Visit

The Day Centre had a visit from Lochside Thursday Club on the first of April.

Around 50 members travelled from Dumfries to be at the Day Centre in time for morning coffee which gave everyone plenty of time to chat and catch up on news and events since last they visited.

The Day Centre staff and members organised a fab sales table of bakery and knitting and some raffle tickets were sold in aid of the Day Centre. After a lovely three course lunch followed by teas and coffees there was entertainment provided by James Pratt and Jennifer Sproule. They are such good ports and had fun with Scottish folk songs, as well as jokes, poems and a good old sing-a-long. The raffle was drawn before afternoon tea and once everyone had again finished drinking tea and eating cakes Alisin announced the amount of £440 had been raised. A big thank you to both our visitors, and our own members, for their kind contributions.

This is an update on Dr Reids’ Lands End to John O’Groats bicycle run. He is raising money through sponsorship of said run for Coronation Day Centre. With the raffle and bag pack at Tesco he has raised nearly another £1000 to go towards the costs of his endeavour. He leaves to start his run the first week of May. We wish him a safe journey.

Visit by Dalbeattie Day Centre

Dalbeattie Day Centre members travelled up to join us at Coronation Day Centre on Wednesday 7th May. Although the weather wasn’t the best, wet and windy, the Dalbeattie members said they had had a fairly straightforward journey. Arriving just before 12 gave them time to meet and greet with our own members before lunch was served.

Members from both clubs had brought some gifts to be raffled so they were set out and some tickets sold.

A good lunch of vegetable soup, mince, tatties and turnip then jelly fruit and ice cream which was then followed by teas and coffees.

Alisin announced the route and miles travelled by Dr Reid who is doing a Lands End to John’o’Groats cycle run in aid of the Day Centre and also that our Chairperson, Mairi Mc Robert, had a birthday and everyone sang along to wish her the happiest of days. Entertainment for the afternoon was supplied by Tam & John Agnew much to the delight of everyone there. They certainly know how to get hands clapping and toes tapping!

All too soon the bus returned to take our visitors home again and after thank yous and goodbyes were said it was onto the bus and waves all round. We really hope they all come back again soon.
