Xmas Bazaar 2012

Ho! Ho! Ho!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.                                                                                                  When all folks are jolly and full of good cheer.

Yes, it’s December! Time once again for the popular Coronation Day Centre Bazaar.  On Saturday the 8th the doors were opened at 11am to the waiting public. The £2 entry, with under 12’s half price, was very reasonable, Tea or coffee with a mince pie and shortbread biscuit, made by the kitchen ladies and gentleman, were served at 11.30. With much appreciation by thirsty and peckish shoppers. As always, the home baking stall was very busy from the off with everything from biscuits of every description, cupcakes and loaves to scones, oven and griddle. There was a book stall for all the bibliophiles, knitting stall with handmade goods and cards, the Christmas ones were especially lovely. The chance to win a hamper by picking a team on the football card, which was won by Mrs Arkless, a bric-a-brac for the treasure hunters, all those who watch Antique Roadshow know that many priceless items are found there and the ever popular bottle stall. The raffle was once again enormous, thanks to all the members and friends of the Day Centre, too numerous to mention but you all know who you are, for donating prizes. I will say though that the two main prizes, a foot passenger crossing for four persons from Stena was won by Mr & Mrs Robertson and the fantastic Bike, which nearly everyone wanted, certainly the children!,  was won by Mr Smith. The total amount raised on the day was £1463:50.  All the proceeds from the day will be going toward the Day Centre itself.  Lastly, a great big thank you, to everyone who came along on the day and also the volunteers who gave willingly of their time.

December is also one of the times when the Day Centre gets a visit from the primary schools; they come along to perform their carol concerts and nativities for the members. This year we have St Josephs, Park, Rephad and Belmont all giving their time on various dates to entertain us. The 12th sees the Day Centre Christmas lunch, a time for festive food and cheer; this year once again Jim Hamilton has agreed to come along to entertain us which everyone is looking forward to.  We will also be having our own candlelit carol concert for members on the 21st which has become a favourite fixture on our calendar.

We at the Day Centre wish you all the merriest of Christmases and a happy and prosperous New Year.
